“It was a year. A leap year. A leap into the unknown, a terrible and terrifying time. We moved indoors and separated into pods. It was a time of forced reflection, intensified relationships and/or loneliness, physical and mental distance. It was also a time of social upheaval, racial reckoning, political splintering, climate disruption. As time stretched out in all directions, I found threads of new songs and followed them back in my history and forward to the incomprehensible now. The songs are of this time, reflecting a new vantage point when 'normal' life is suspended. Writing them was an integration, a catharsis, a lifeline to past and future. These new songs will always be timestamped 'in between times', while looking back we realize, more than ever, that we have no idea what is to come.” ~ Barry Oreck
Singer songwriter Barry Oreck releases his 4th album, "Leap Year", in spring, early summer, of 2022. "Leap Year" includes 8 new original songs, and one updated, written during the pandemic, featuring a range of musical styles, with songs about families and forgiveness, truth and belief, fantasies of home, living in the moment, and appreciating the small things. This is the 3rd album with Oreck’s virtuosic Brooklyn band, Jesse Miller on guitar, mandolin and vocals, Rima Fand on violin and vocals, Adam Armstrong on bass, who bring tight vocal harmonies and instrumental interplay to Oreck’s poetic and thoughtprovoking songs. The songs on their previous EP, "We Fit Together", shared an underlying theme of the interconnection of all people across the globe. The past 2 years have only deepened and intensified that inescapable truth.
