"Winter Solstice" is the new Christmas single from one of today’s most innovative folk bands, West Of Eden.
Not only have West of Eden through the years collaborated with the finest Celtic artists out there, released 14 albums and toured all over, they have also carved out a niche as master interpreters of the Celtic Christmas tradition.
Their latest Christmas album was met by stunning reviews. American Highways wrote "The vocalizing magic is reminiscent of early Sandy Denny and Fairport Convention, this tight band just fills the soul with a good feeling, all energetic, enthusiastic and ear caressing".
And now it’s time for "Winter Solstice". A song that emerged from a short instrumental piece composed by the band’s guitar player Henning Sernhede. When the band’s main writers Jenny and Martin Schaub heard it, they instantly sensed that this should be transformed into a full song, a hymn that now is somewhat of a prayer for light, peace and better days to come.
The song is also yet another reminder of the superb songwriting and performance skills of this truly unique band. West Of Eden.
And call it a family affair, but the cover is actually taken from an old painting by Jenny’s uncle Gunnar Thorén.
West Of Eden’s 'Celtic Christmas Tour' features no less that 25 stops along the way and starts in Karlstad, Sweden, on November 27th, 2024.
The new single is released by Melody Music on November 15th, 2024.
