"Nobody Knows This Little Rose". Emily Dickinson's immortal poems in bittersweet musical form. 8 songs dealing with faith and doubt, transience and eternal hope, loneliness and longing. After the critically acclaimed Swedish album "Tid" (Time), Nina Åkerblom Nielsen returns to poetry set to music.
Emily Dickinson is a prominent figure in American literature, and lived in an era when it was not obvious that women could engage freely in artistic expression. Even today, she inspires women to find their own voice. Some describe her as an early feminist, with one foot in a society weighed down by tradition and the other foot in a world where new approaches were breaking through.
The 19th century Emily and today's Nina are 2 creative women whose conditions are radically different, but there are also points of contact. Nina has started from the time in which Dickinson lived and thus the music she most likely encountered and practiced herself. There were the church hymns, the organ and the piano on which she played, but also more popular tunes played by the household servants.
Nina has sung, but also composed and published church music and several choral works, and here she has combined that part of her artistry with a more traditional singer songwriter expression with an americana feel. An old reed organ has been allowed to play a significant role in the songs. Nina has also involved the girls' choir she directs to further enhance the sense of Emily's possible musical influences.
The new album will be on all download and streaming sites October 20th, 2023.
