Southern Belle

Following on from the recent single "Echoes", Swedish singer songwriter Su Andersson releases brand new single "Southern Belle" on April 8th, 2022, and announces her sophomore album "Brave".

In an era defined by a profound lack of human interaction, it is of little surprise that acclaimed songstress Su Andersson should choose to communicate her inner thoughts instead via musical outpouring, with new single "Southern Belle". A duet with Swedish singer songwriter and documentary maker Eva-Maria Junker, the song’s upbeat nature belies a melancholic lyrical theme that pays more than a passing homage to the golden age of cinema. Yet it also holds up a mirror to the artist’s own sense of self, contrasting expectation with reality, as Su wonders openly, “What are the expectations of my own reflection in the meeting of the mirror? Does it differ from the picture in my head, and should I even care?”.

If such introspection is perhaps inevitable, it belies the yearning for connection that underpins "Brave", the forthcoming album from which the new single is taken, which sees Su welcome and interact with the world around her, and the opportunities it provides. “It has been impossible to escape the desire to want to interact with other people", she explains.“Music itself is so collaborative in nature, that it seemed entirely natural to me to make an album that pro actively sought artistic collaboration with open arms, and warmth of spirit”.

"Brave" is the follow up to Su’s critically received debut album "Train Stories", which 1st showcased her distinctivelyquirky brand of americana. Her sophomore set is at once a bolder and more varied offering than her debut though, and features a broad range of duets, that are both local and global in equal measure. As Su herself relays, “There are people around the corner if you’re willing to go there, and are brave enough to make that step, and say hello”.

"Southern Belle" will be released on April 8th, 2022, and the album, "Brave", on June 10th, 2022, both on Firma Su Records.
