"Who Are You", The Who’s 8th studio album, is being reissued across a number of formats in October.
Released in August 1978, the album was a commercial success, peaking at # 2 on the U.S. Billboard chart, where only the soundtrack to the Grease prevented it from hitting the top spot in the USA. The record also reached # 6 in the UK album charts.
"Who Are You" was the band’s final studio album to feature Keith Moon, who died just 3 weeks after it was released. The album showcased some of Pete Townshend’s most complicated arrangements, with multiple layers of synthesizer and strings, including songs envisaged for Townshend’s never realised "Lifehouse" project.
The 1st single from the album, the eponymous "Who Are You", was a transatlantic top 20 hit and has become over the years a staple in the band’s setlist and decades later gained new audiences when used at the theme tune to US TV’s 'CSI : Crime Scene Investigation'.
Formats in the reissue campaign include a 7 CD + BluRay box set, a 4 LP vinyl box, a 2 CD edition and various vinyl versions. The box set features previously unreleased Glyn Johns mixes, rejected by the band at the time, early run throughs, sessions and outtakes, plus unreleased tracks from Shepperton studio rehearsals, live recordings and more.
To be released by Polydor Records and Universal Music on October 31st, 2025.
