Elton John’s 1971 album "Madman Across The Water" will be reissued for its belated 50th anniversary in June. The album was Elton’s 4th and it spawned the singles "Tiny Dancer" and "Levon", the latter wasn’t issued in the UK. Recorded at Trident Studios in Central London in February and August 1971, it was the 1st album where all 5 players of Elton’s fabled band line up, Dee Murray, Nigel Olsson, Davey Johnstone and Ray Cooper, were featured. The album also featured Yes keyboardist Rick Wakeman, who plays Hammond organ on 3 songs.
The album was actually only a modest hit in the UK, peaking at #41, but reached #8 in the US paving the way for Elton’s mega years and 6 consecutive #1 albums!
There are 4 physical formats for the 50th anniversary of "Madman Across The Water" and all of them contain Bob Ludwig’s 2016 remaster of the main album. A 3 CD + BluRay super deluxe contains rarities including piano demos of the album and the audio of BBC's 'Sounds For Saturday' concert, broadcasted in 1972.
All the audio from the 3 CD's in the super deluxe set will also be available on a 4 LP vinyl box. The box set includes photos, an essay with interviews with those who helped make the album, as well as memorabilia and artwork taken from The Rocket Archive. The album will also be available as a limited edition blue and white coloured 180g vinyl LP.
"Madman Across The Water" will be reissued on June 10th, 2022, via Universal Music.
