Nils Lofgren, beloved musician, songwriter and Rock'N'Roll Hall Of Famer esteemed for his work with the E Street Band and in Crazy Horse, among other projects, will add to his solo catalog on July 21st, 2023, with a new record called "Mountains".

Just announced, the album features contributions from some of Lofgren’s legendary friends, including Neil Young, Ringo Starr, the late David Crosby, Cindy Mizelle, Ron Carter and the Howard Gospel Choir.

The 1st song debuted from the record, “Ain’t The Truth Enough”, features Ringo Starr and, “was written in the wake of the January 6th insurrection and reckons with the ways that misinformation and demagoguery can tear families apart and silo us in our own realities”.

“One early desert morning, strong coffee in hand, I tuned my Martin D 35 acoustic gifted to me by the great James Caan, bless you Jimmy, to an open G and said ‘write’! Soon the title and main riff were coming through me, 'ain’t the truth enough'. Lucky me! I felt I had to go deep and with the global war on women, and man’s deadly epidemic of lies and spin for money and power, I imagined a fierce, loving mother and wife dealing with a husband recently home from the insurrection. Cindy Mizelle added the woman’s voice with great soul and power here, and I felt inspired and a day later this special song was done. Not mean spirited, all truth, harsh reality”.

"With Ringo, I just sent him the song to hear, first. I didn't just assume he'd play on it; I said, 'Tell me what you think. I'd love you to play on it, if you're up for it'. And he called me and started singing the chorus and said, 'I love it! I'll play on it. Send it to me'. It's a blessing".

Also joining Lofgren on the 10 song set is Crazy Horse boss Neil Young ("Nothing's Easy", dedicated to Lofgren's wife and co-producer Amy), the late David Crosby ("I Remember Her Name"), jazz bass legend Ron Carter ("Only Your Smile") and the Howard Gospel Choir ("Back in Your Arms). "Won't Cry No More" is dedicated to the late Rolling Stones drummer Charlie Watts. Ringo Starr also sings on "We Better Find It", (Lofgren was an All-Starr Band member in 1989 and 1992).

Written and recorded at home in Scottsdale, AZ, the 10 song collection is lush and soulful, mixing rock'n'roll muscle with blues grit and gospel transcendence as it grapples with a world where pride and selfishness are treated as virtues and the power hungry are rewarded for their greed and shortsightedness.

“These songs are all born of raw emotion”, says Lofgren. “I gave myself permission to share my fear and my anger, my love and my hope, to be open about what I was experiencing without over analyzing or editing the life out of it”.
